The Day I Lost My Morning Smile

Even if I’m always perceived as a serious or garang person, I do love good jokes. But I’m picky too- that is why it is hard for me to laugh at any comedy shows even movies. I loathe at most of American comedies and find that the Brit's are a better lots. And for some unknown reasons, I will not fail to laugh at Mr. Bean’s antics. Every time. No matter how many times it is being aired in the telly. Oh yes, I also loovve ‘ Whose Line Is It Anyway”, even if it is an ancient programme (90's era) and the talents are far from being hot. But they are the MOST talented and funny bunch of people I must say. They could create characters, scenes and song on the spot, and still funny like hell. (I just found out that the show was originally from Britain, see the Brits are funny!). And speaking of local talent, I adore Din Beramboi. I still remember those days, back in the 90’s where my cousins-Yaya, Etty and I would sneak up in the room and listen to the ‘Pujaan Sirap’ cassette that ...

Ode To Our Father

In response to my previous entry - Ode to My Father-The Unspoken Love, my brother FK had posted his comment which I thought was too precious to be left just in the comment box. So I decided to share it here.. He was a good man. I am where I am today because of him. I was five or six maybe when we went to Yaohan together. For some reasons I can't remember, I asked him to buy me some tools. So he bought me a red toolbox, a couple of big screwdrivers with yellow handles, pliers and a set of interchangeable saws. Real tools, not toys. And the fun began. Not too long after that I came out with my own invention. "Pembakar belacan" I called it, intended to replace the tudung periuk my mom used to grill belacan. Nothing fancy. But looking back at it I thought it's pretty amazing that I came out with it at such young age. See there was a problem, there was the thought process on the possible solutions, there was the fabrication of the most cost effective solution, and there w...

Ode To My Father-The Unspoken Love

February 13- It has been exactly 9 years since my Dad left us. And yet there was no single day passed without me missing him…It was rather ironic because when my Dad was around, we were not that close in the sense that we talk or share a lot of things with each other. My brother and I were very close to my Mom, and our communication with my Dad was very minimal. It was not that my Dad was s angat garang what so ever, in fact he never scold us, w alaupun dengan rotan kecik, cubit dsb. Perhaps it was due to his quiet nature, but no doubt that he loved us very much, just in his own ways. I couldn’t really explain how he did it, but despite the silence, somehow both of my brother and I know that my Dad loved us to bits. Until now I can feel that I was loved no matter where I go. The indescribable feeling is what I call the unspoken love. I couldn’t really recall if my Dad had ever wished me Happy Birthday, but when I was in primary school, every year without failed...

If we happened to be the cast of Friends, (our so-called group consisted of 6 persons- 3 guys and 3 girls), Lin would definitely be our Monica – because she always has her own ways in doing things, and how she wants it to be. I still remember how we always tease her whenever we go out for drinks. After we got our order, Lin would take a sip and more often than not, she will call back the waiter/waitress and asked him/her to ‘modify’ the drink- the way its taste should be. Tau jelah sometimes tempat makan nie sengal sket bab buat air nie, cair sangat, pekat sangat etc . For those who don’t know her you might say that she’s fussy. Well, that’s not true, because she endured the many tasks during our *PA time without being whiny and clingy at all. And that include underwent the rigorous army and bomba training, getting our hands and feet dirty and living in the hygienically-challenged situation during the outdoor modules. So I guess it proves that Lin is not fussy, it’s just that she alwa...

My "Ciku" Story-Part I

Image
I just love ciku. It’s such an exquisite and yet humble fruit. The outside of the fruit is hard, but the isi is just soft and sweet thus not much chewing is required, and if it’s really ripe, we can just slurp it..lovely! Besides the taste, I just love the fruit because every time I eat it, it brings back a special memory that I still vividly remember even though it had happened about 10 years ago. And this is my “Ciku Story” … Venue : Kuala Lumpur General Hospital Time : After 10 p.m. You know how creepy hospitals could be at night. For those who were sick, that was the time to get the much needed rest after being poked and stubbed with various needles, medications and what not for the whole day. However, for the caretaker, that was the most dreaded time of the day - the sudden ‘lifeless’ of the building at night could really make you worry sick about the sick. I had been here for about two months now. There was nothing much that I could do then besides walking back and forth from ...

Here's to you...

Today is a birthday of a good friend of mine. This person has such a strong and pure personality that makes you either like him or loathe him. As in my case, I fall on the former category. He will always be himself no matter what and that makes him so indispensable especially amongst friends. H is presence is felt; and his absence is definitely missed. So for his birthday, I pray that he will have enough of everything in this world. Nobody really needs more that what’s enough.. Here is an excerpt from “I Wish You Enough” by Bob Perks specially dedicated to him… “ I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough" Happy 29th Birthday!!!!
