"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing"- Albert Einstein

A couple of months ago, my colleague, PJ was found unconscious on the roadside near Masjid Negara with only his helmet and IC with him. Hence, the police tracked down his family in Johor according to the address in his IC. But the fact is, his family had moved to KL. Finally the police managed to get hold of the family in the afternoon, whilst the incident (or accident) took place in the morning.

Ironically, our office situated about 15 minutes from the scene. And we only got to know about the news late in the evening. While we were visiting him that evening, I could not help but to ask, "Siapalah manusia yang sanggup do such thing to another human being?" We were so full of questions, was he being robbed? or was it a hit-and-run and then he was robbed? or did he got into a fight and was beaten severely? But it was only him that could answer that, and there he was, laying unconsiously while thick blood kept dripping from his head and ears.

That time I realized that how small and vulnerable we are when we stand alone as a person in this world. I mean of course we are so-and-so, came from this place, working as bla bla bla, but I realized that day that we are what we are because we identify ourselves as one. What if we aren't capable of doing that, just like PJ, unconscious? Will people still treat us as they used to? Because I know that sometimes people regard us not because who we really are, but because of our position, the brands that we wear, the car that we drive and other superficial things like that..sad but true. In this world we live today, sincerity and purity is scarce. Just like M.Nasir's song "Hati Emas".

Back to PJ's story, alhamdulillah he was okay, and back to work after 2-months of MC. But his memory was a bit blur, is it short term memory loss? Even if what happened to him was really bad, at least he got the IC with him..other wise it would become more difficult to identify and notify the family then. Based on his experience, therefore now I carry a small card with me other than the IC with my latest residential address and the contact numbers of my closest ones, who knows right? Moreover, Malaysian IC is very alluring...
