Hot Mama!

Please don't be fooled with the title of this entry. I was not referring to J.Lo, Jessica Alba or Angelina Jolie here. And of course, I was not referring to myself! Muntah darah kot, kalau buat macam tu, hahaha.

I'm talking about feeling hot as in sweating  - literally. Not really a great picture huh? But that is exactly what I'm feeling right now. I really can't stand the heat lately. I sweat like crazy even early in the morning, after shower, when it's raining outside or even in the car with the air-cond blowing straight to my face...I'm feeling hot everytime. And it's so uncomfortable and gross! There was this one time that I felt really hot that I thought that the air-condition in my office was not working. So I got the technician to check it and it turned out that the air-condition was working properly and the temperature was fine. So, it was just me!

A quick survey on the Net explains that pregnant ladies will feel the effect of the hot weather more than other person. According to this article, the 'hotness' is due to the fact that a woman’s metabolic rate increases 15-20% during pregnancy. As this rate increases, so does heat production. So in other words, when you are pregnant, your body temperature is already a bit higher than normal, so added heat from the outside temperature is bound to make you feel uncomfortable. And I'm living in this hot and humid weather, great!

There is nothing much that I can do to overcome the 'hot' situation. I just have to keep myself cool (that means air-cond + full blast fan), limit my sun exposure, wear light clothes and drink plenty of water to keep myself rehydrated. But there is one fact that really cools me down - a pregnant woman actually acts as a radiator for her baby. As the fetus grows, it generates heat, and the only way to vent that excess energy is through your cardiovascular system. As a result, your blood volume and metabolic rate rise -- which can make you feel uncomfortably toasty. Oh, Allah is Great! I should not complain anymore and should be grateful instead that I'm doing this for my baby. Insya Allah!
