Home Sweet Home: Tiles

Wah dah lama kot tak update perkembangan rumah. Niat asal nak update ikut progress, tapi apakan daya, tiada kesempatan Anyway, better late than never, right? I still want to document our experience in building our dream home. Walau pun comel je saiznya, tapi insha Allah, rumah sendiri =)

Tiles with wooden design
In this entry I would like to share our experience in doing the floor. We have to change the tiles of the whole house as the current one is quite sedih in condition.

Initially, we were considering wooden floor in order to get the earthy-resort feel. But we were quite skeptical on its ability to withstand the hot and humid weather, water/liquid spills etc in the long run. Little did we know that now there are tiles with wood design in the market! Of course it is cheaper to as compared with the real wood and it’s easier to maintain. So, happily we settled for the later due to both the durability and economic reasons.

But we only use the wood-design tiles for the master bedroom and patio. For the rest of the house we used the usual tiles.
Speaking of the tiles, we use NIRO tiles for the whole house – inside and out. Truth to be told, I never heard of the brand before. When it comes to tiles, I only know one brand - White Horse, and that is because of its constant ads in the radio. However, a  relative of us who is working in the construction industry, had introduced NIRO to us. It was told that most commercial areas – shopping malls, banks etc use Niro. Perhaps because it is more durable? I don’t really now, but we went to its show room in STADEC Segambut anyway.

For those who haven’t heard of STADEC before(like me), it stands for Segambut Tile and Interior Decoration Centre. Kelas kan Segambut, siap ada own ID centre! The place was very convenient, parking is not a problem (and it’s free!) and easy access from the main road. On our first visit there, we spent almost 5 hours in the store, taking our own sweet time in choosing the tiles for our house. The fact that the SA – Wan was so attentive, patient and knowledgeable made our visit(s) even better! I seriously recommend this place and SA to you guys. Yelah, kadang-kadang bila pergi kedai dapat pulak service yang teruk - SA not helpful, muka mencuka, garang, tak tau tentang produk, memang sakit hati. We are paying customers, so we deserve the best. Niro @ STADEC memang best!
Our choice for the porch
Adeelia pun sibuk memilih
Mak buyung pun tak ketinggalan
MH pening nak suit kehendak hati with budget =)
Of course I’m not an expert, but there are a few tips that I got that might help those who are looking for tiles as well –

(1)  Bigger size tiles will make the room/area look bigger and most of the time it is more economic too.

(2)  Be mindful if you choose to have dark-coloured tiles as it is more susceptible towards chemicals that been used in detergent, bleach or any other washing liquid.

(3)  In most cases, the tiles will cover the most (if not all) the area inside the house. So the design, material, size, the effect (shiny/matte) will affect the overall look and feel of the house. So don’t rush in making the decision, try and look out for as many options as you could before making the important decision.

Our initial choice for the hall, but later we found that it's too dark for our house
Hope you guys find it useful!
