Family Outing @KL Bird Park
Lately, I'm really excited in planning our family activities during the weekend or holidays. Maybe it's because both my children dah besar sedikit dan dah boleh berjalan, so lebih mudah untuk bawa jalan-jalan dan beg pun taklah besar sangat macam masa baby hehehe. One more reason maybe it's because MH kurang kena outstation or kerja during weekend/public holidays lately, so it's more fun for us to plan our family activity.
During the CNY holiday, we went to KL Bird Park. Before we went there, I did a little online research about this place. It got great reviews from international visitors, which put me to shame because I'd never been there. Sometimes, we tend to take things for granted just because we live there, right? So dengan mengambil spirit Tahun Melawat Malaysia 2014, kami pun tak ketinggalan untuk explore tempat-tempat menarik di negara sendiri starting with the KL Bird Park. It's never too late to appreciate our own country right?
Tiket masuk ialah RM25/person for adults and RM12 for children below 12 years of age. Free admission for children below 2-years old. Tips #1-You might need to show your IC at the counter as the rate charged for foreign visitors are different.
Tips #2-Wear comfortable shoes as a LOT of walking is needed and the walking trail is uneven. I'm glad that I chose to wear my snickers rather than my usual wedges. If not, ada yang jalan kaki ayam kot kat situ =) I put Aydeen in his Bjorn's carrier, as it was easier. The place was stroller friendly, but there were a lot of gates, so will need another person to open/close the gate for us. KL Bird Park has quite a great variety of bird species. Parrots, ostriches, cockatoos, eagles, macam-macam lagilah. But I noticed that the information on the birds and the explanation about its species were limited. The display/info boards were also unattractive and not children-friendly in terms of the content presentation, font, colour - everything! I suspect that this is common in a lot of tempat-tempat melawat in Malaysia - be it taman burung, taman strawberry dan taman-taman lain. Their focus is more on displaying the subjects, but they were quite ignorance when it comes to the educational part. Buat macam hendak tak hendak je. This is quite disappointing, actually. More efforts should be put on enhancing the educational part of the visit.
Anyway, we really had a good time there. Tips #3 -is to plan your visit well, so that you won't miss the great bird show which is scheduled at 12.30 pm everyday. It was really fun and exciting to see the birds doing all sorts of tricks and acrobatics. It was definitely the highlight of the visit! That brings to Tips #4 - don't forget your hats, sunnies and also hand-fan. Even though the place has a lot of trees that provide sensible shades from the sun, it could get really hot especially as you sit at the Auditorium for the bird show.
Tips #5- Bring your own drinks and snacks. I was so glad that I prepared chicken nuggets & Ribena, so that we didn't have to stop to eat. It was meant for the kids, but with the hot sun and long walk, MH and I pun tumpang snacking hehehe. Like any other tourist attraction centres, the food/drinks there were a little bit pricey. Expect to pay RM4 for 500mL mineral water and canned drinks. We bought ice creams anyway, cannot tahan, so panas!
Tips #6-Don't miss the opportunity to get up-close with the exotic birds! It was worth every penny! We took the 'official picture' with the birds at the photo booth. It was RM35/session for a group/family of max 6 pax + printing. Those birds were so jinak and people friendly! Notice the little bird on Adeelia's head? The picture was really a great memento from KL Bird Park.
We spent about 3-hours there. Just right for lunch time. We didn't eat at the restaurant there, but headed to Jalan TAR instead with the intention to eat sizzling steak at Colliseum Cafe. But it was closed for CNY...huhuhu. So we went to Publika instead and had our lunch at PickNik, and guess who we met there?

Of course Chef Nik Micheal himself! It's unfair that he's so kurus despite the fact that he's surrounded with food all day! So that ended our trip for that day. Hope to discover more interesting places soon!
