First Quarter of 2020 ~ A Retrospective : The Never Ending Story

The year 2020 have been really interesting and we only just got to the first half of it. I had so much to share here about the happenings in my life, my country and even the world for the past six months that I decided to break the post into a few smaller pieces for it to be more bearable for the readers hahaha.

I will start with the ULTIMATE political turmoil that the country had ever seen. This was far more interesting than the change in Government after the General Election in May 2018. I will not talk about politics ~ it is just not my cup of tea. But here are some of the fascinating findings that I found from the whole ordeal:

The-One-Man-Cabinet

Following the unprecedented change in the Government on February 24th 2020 with the abrupt resignation of Malaysia’s 7th (and also 4th Prime Minister) the country was left without Cabinet Ministers for a little over a fortnight. During the period, Tun M was appointed by YDPA as the Interim PM, resulting the Cabinet to be literally a one-man-show until  TSMY wass appointed as the 8th PM on March 1st. The Cabinet-less situation remained the same however for another week until the new coalition was established and the new Cabinet members was announced on March 9thAnd I just had an interesting picture to share in reminiscence of that perhaps once-in-a-lifetime period.
Taken from Kabinet Malaysia website on February 27th, 2020
During the Cabinet-hiatus, the Government machinery operated normally, with a little exception with regards to adopting new policies, allocation etc. that would require the Cabinet decision. I myself found that the situation did not really affected us that much, except for two ministerial meetings that had been scheduled earlier which we had been labouring on for over a month had to be called off. It was too late to cancel the food for one of the meetings ~ so we ended up having a sumptuous tea one evening hahaha.

The Prime Minister Chronicle

Here it is ~ Malaysia's 7th PM was also the country's 4th PM who dismissed his deputy (the 5th PM in waiting) back on 1998. Then within the duration of 15 years, the country had its 5th PM and 6th PM respectively. The 6th PM also dismissed his deputy in 2015 (whom later became the 8th PM).

On 2018, the 4th PM joined force with 5th PM in waiting and together they had made a huge comeback in politics and succeeded to topple the Government (in the 14th General Election) lead by the 6th PM who is also the son of the 2nd PM

The 4th PM lead the new coalition as the 7th PM with the promise to hand over the post to the 5th & now 7th PM in waiting when the time comes. But the coalition/party continuously pushing the 7th PM to do so which resulting the 7th PM to tender his resignation after 22 months holding the office. The 7th PM was then appointed as the Interim PM (73/4 PM) whilst the decision was being made on who get the most mandate to be the 8th PM. Unexpectedly (well at least to the general public), the deputy of the 6th PM who also had served in the Cabinet under the 4th PM and 7th PM was appointed as the 8th PM, much to the dismay of the 4th PM @7th PM @ 73/4 PM and of course the 5th, 7th , 8th and now 9th PM in waiting.

Get it? Confusing right? As a person who got the chance to witness it all, I found it is interesting and at times entertaining ~ I guess there is never a dull moment in the national politics. But good luck to the candidate of matapelajaran Sejarah in 2070 to understand and actually memorize the chronology! 😂

Well, now that the 8th PM got his Cabinet line-up all geared up and got back to work running the country since its inception in early March, the “Who’s Going to be Malaysia’s Next PM” seemed to be a never-ending national saga until now.
